Our listed farmhouse is located in the Betuwe. Rural and historic but within easy reach, just 3 minutes, from the A2 motorway between ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Utrecht. It is also close to the Deil intersection where the A15 crosses the A2 between Tiel and Gorinchem.
De Heeren van Tuil opened its doors in 2017. This unique B&B on the banks of the river Waal was started by Willem Bleuland van Oordt and Joost Jan Stolker. They moved into the listed farmhouse De Lindenhof built in 1720, at the end of 2016. In this unique setting surrounded by nature they created a spot where peace, beauty and true hospitality come together.
Willem was born in 1966 and hospitality is in his blood. He grew up in De Kastanjehof, Lage Vuursche, owned by his parents. As a child he would serve coffee and cake on the terrace. After having spent time working in Germany, Switzerland and England, Willem ended up working in the hotel industry in Amsterdam where he was general manager of several hotels. At De Heeren van Tuil he returned to what is the basis of his profession, hospitality.
Co-founder Joost Jan Stolker (1965-2025) was a driven psychiatrist who liked to paint. He used to work with people suffering from serious mental problems. He knew the importance of peace, nature and beauty on the road to recovery. After a hectic lifestyle in the centre of Utrecht, he found time to think, relax and enjoy beauty in Tuil. Joost loved people and beautiful things. He wanted to make a difference – as a doctor, friend and host. Right up to the time he died, he remained of importance to people, for example by contributing to a documentary about palliative care.
After the death of his partner, Willem continues to run De Heeren van Tuil with love and devotion. The ambiance, style and warmth they created, continues. Joost’s spirit, taste and true involvement still shine through in every detail.
In loving memory of Joost Jan Stolker (1965–2025), co-founder of De Heeren van Tuil
Joost is no more. Joost was a sensitive person. Psychiatrist, painter, bon-vivant and my partner. He loved beautiful things – art, quietness, hospitality. Like me, he wanted to share this unique spot with others whether they were family, friends or guests.
Over the past few years we have grown De Heeren van Tuil with love. Joost always wanted to mean something to others. As a psychiatrist he made a difference for many people. During his illness, he continued to help others by openly writing about his illness and just before he died he took part in a documentary about palliative care.
Joost will always be one of the Heeren van Tuil. His warmth, his eye for beauty and his strong conviction that showing an interest has a healing effect, continue to live in everything that makes this place unique.
This is why I continue our life’s work – De Heeren van Tuil – with my heart and soul. Hospitable, stylish and with an attention to detail.
You are – as ever – always welcome. Just like Joost wanted it.
With warm and hospitable greetings
Willem Bleuland van Oordt
